<< Click to Display Table of Contents >> Migrating from Version 1 to Version 2 (Ascent) |
If you are migrating from our previous Version 1 product, WhisperReporter, to this new Version 2 product, WhisperReporter Ascent, we are available for assistance if needed. Just contact Whisper Computer Solutions, Inc for help. Basically it can be a 4-step process, but because of the differences in the editors used between the two versions, some minor adjustments might be needed, such as with table cells.
Download and install WhisperReporter Ascent (both Version 1 and Ascent can be installed on the same PC). Since Ascent uses a different database than Version 1, it will required some backup/restore operations using the Data Manager from both versions.
1.RapidRemarks
Use the Data Manager in Version 1 to backup your RapidRemarks. Then use the Data Manager in Version 2 to restore that backup file.
2.Templates/Reports
Use the Data Manager in Version 1 to backup any templates and reports you would like to have in Version 2. Then use the Data Manager in Version 2 to restore that backup file. Note: In general, we don't recommend copying your older reports because you can keep Version 1 installed along with Version 2 and still have access to those older reports. Also, the newer editor and PDF generator might not reproduce the older reports exactly as they were in Version 1.
3.Real Estate Data
Only those Real Estate Agents and Company info that is part of the templates and reports brought over from Version 1 will have been restored, you may want to backup the Real Estate Data from Version 1 and then restore the backup file into Version 2 using the Data Managers mentioned earlier.
4.Picklists
Only those Picklists used in the templates and reports you brought over from Version 1 will have been restored. As earlier, you can use the Data Manager to backup the Picklists in Version 1 and restore them into Version 2.
Due to the way Version 1 stores certain data and the way it backs up this data, some cleanup in Version 2 may be needed, but not required, once you have everything you need backed up as described above.
•You may find a folder in the RapidRemark Manager titled "Unresolved RapidRemark Folders". This folder can be safely deleted because it contains orphaned references to RapidRemark folders of RapidRemark Views that were restored. They are added temporarily in case RapidRemarks are restored after a report or template is restored. So if all your RapidRemarks have been restored, they represent orphaned folder references.
•Using the RapidRemark View Manager, click the [Cleanup...] button. This will remove any RapidRemark Views not referenced by any templates or reports you had restored. As with RapidRemarks, these would be orphaned RapidRemark Views and are probably the ones referencing those "Unresolved RapidRemark Folders" you may have seen in the RapidRemark Manager.
As mentioned above, tables are handled a little bit differently with the editor in Version 2 than it was in Version 1. If you use tables, you may find that some table column widths need to be re-sized back to their desired widths. Hopefully you only had a few custom templates, so it should be relatively easy to go through each topic where you used tables and make any adjustments needed.
