Placeholders

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

A placeholder, by default, is a series of 4 X’s in a row (“XXXX”) that stand-in for some other text. The placeholder should be replaced by a number, word, sentence or paragraph, depending of the context surrounding the place holder.  The following illustrates one example of its usage:

We have identified property conditions that will required significant short-term expense or long-term capital investments:

Immediate:                        $XXXX

Short-term, Year 1:                $XXXX

Long-Term, Year 2-XXXX:        $XXXX

In this example above, we have 3 placeholders for dollar amounts of each of the bulleted items and also one to specify the ending year of the long-term range. Since the dollar amounts are likely to vary from report to report, placeholders are used to handle the viability.  Simply highlight the placeholder and type the text you want.

We have identified property conditions that will required significant short-term expense or long-term capital investments:

Immediate:                        $500

Short-term, Year 1:                $1750

Long-Term, Year 2-20:        $156,500

Above, the placeholders have been edited.
